Biography
A life spent showing readers the Bible’s Catholic foundations.
Dave Armstrong is one of the most prolific Catholic apologists writing in English today. A former evangelical Protestant who entered the Catholic Church in 1991, he has spent the last 35 years specializing in showing readers, in plain language and with patient citation, that the Bible itself is the Catholic faith’s strongest defender, and also doing a lot of historical and philosophical / scientific apologetics as well.
His first book, A Biblical Defense of Catholicism, was completed in 1996 and went on to be published by Sophia Institute Press. Since then he has written more than fifty more — covering Scripture and tradition, the early Church Fathers, justification and salvation, the Eucharist, Mary, the papacy, Newman, Luther, Calvin, and the modern questions Catholic readers are still being asked. Sophia has published six of his books. Catholic Answers has published two. Most of the rest he has self-published so that they stay accessible and affordable to working Catholics, converts, and curious Protestants.
Alongside the books are more than 5,000 articles in all — more than 4,600 free essays at his blog Biblical Evidence for Catholicism, 348 articles for National Catholic Register (regular contributor 2016–2025), several pieces for Catholic Answers Magazine (in addition to two books with Catholic Answers and multiple radio appearances), and columns in The Catholic World Report, Seton Magazine, The Michigan Catholic, and dozens of other Catholic publications since 1993. He has been interviewed on EWTN Radio, Sirius XM’s Catholic Channel, Relevant Radio, Spirit Catholic Radio, and many regional Catholic stations.
In October 2024 Dave joined former pastor Kenny Burchard on the Catholic Bible Highlights YouTube channel for a weekly conversation series defending distinctively Catholic doctrines from the Bible. In May 2025 the two launched a second channel, Lux Veritatis, expanding into apologetics at the intersection of Scripture, science, biblical archaeology, history, and philosophy.
