More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism

A companion piece and continuation of Dave Armstrong’s first book, A Biblical Defense of Catholicism — accumulating biblical arguments in support of distinctively Catholic doctrinal positions, with Protestant readers particularly in mind. Where the first book read like a reference work, this one reads like a conversation.

Across sixteen chapters, Armstrong takes up sola Scriptura, the Eucharist, denominationalism, purgatory, the veneration and mediation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the perennial charges against the Catholic Church — that it’s “half-pagan,” that its sinners disprove its authority, that the Mass is idolatry. Most of the material came directly from email exchanges and internet debates from 1996 to 2000, which is why so many chapters take the form of dialogues: readers see the back-and-forth, not just the conclusion.

With a foreword by Dr. Scott Hahn, who calls it “one such helpful building tool” in the work of explaining the Catholic faith to non-Catholic Christians. For Protestants who want to see Catholic doctrine engaged honestly — and for Catholics who want to listen in.

Inside this book

  • Fictional dialogues on sola Scriptura, the Real Presence, and Penance
  • Biblical and philosophical reflections on the Blessed Eucharist
  • Whether sin and sinners in the Church disprove its authority — and whether the Mass is idolatry
  • The Old Testament, the ancient Jews, and sola Scriptura
  • Two chapters on Marian veneration, the Immaculate Conception, and Mary as Mediatrix
> “More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism is one such helpful building tool. In this book, David Armstrong has supplied useful information to engage those who are not enemies, but brothers and sisters who seek the fullness of God’s family in the Catholic Church.” — Dr. Scott Hahn (from the Foreword)
