This book is a friendly debate that took place in 2022–2023 between Dave Armstrong and Brazilian Calvinist Francisco Tourinho: a worthy, formidable, and respectable opponent.

Mr. Tourinho took advanced courses in theology at the Assemblies of God Biblical Institute in São Paulo, Brazil, and at the time the debate took place was working towards a Masters degree from Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary (Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil). He also has done post-graduate work at Dom Bosco Catholic University (Campo Grande, Brazil). He is a professor in the Reformed Scholasticism discipline at the Jonathan Edwards Seminary (Caruaru, Pernambuco) in the area of philosophical theology.

Francisco Tourinho likewise stated that Dave Armstrong “debated well” and “used good arguments on several occasions,” and was “an excellent apologist”.

The topic is covered very extensively, with hundreds of Bible passages considered and debated.

This book is perfect for anyone — Catholics or Calvinists or other Protestants — who seeks after the fuller and more biblical truth in this regard. Both sides can be read, written by passionate advocates of each position.

The two self-described “pillars” of the Protestant movement in the 16th century were justification by faith alone, or sola fide, and Scripture alone, or sola Scriptura, as the rule of faith.
